Who should attend?

Personnel involved with the company’s Quality and Safety Management Systems. Personnel involved in Marine Safety Agencies - Marine Surveying - Ship Management - Ship Operators - Marine Consultancy - P & I - Port State Control - Flag State Administrations - Classification Societies – Ship Agents – Ports and Port Corporations – Maritime Training Colleges and other Marine and Non-marine related Organisations – Maritime Security Organisations – Ship, Company and Port Facility Security Officers.

What qualifications are required?

An understanding of ISO 9001 & IMO’s ISM Code is beneficial but not essential. However, in order to conduct Assessments against the above criteria, IRCA (International Register of Certificated Auditors) and IMO, have defined qualifications for Auditors/Assessors and by attending this unique Course dual qualifications are obtained. Information regarding these requirements will be explained during the Course. Previous attendance of the Ferriby Marine Internal Auditor Course would be beneficial but not essential

How many can attend?

Attendance is limited to a minimum number of 6 and a maximum of 12 delegates per course.


Course Objectives

Understand the history - requirements and implications of the ISM Code relating to “Safety at Sea” and Legal implications.

Interpret and understand the ISM Code with the inter-relationship to the ISO 9001:2008 including ISO 14001, and OH&S.

Understand the basis and needs for Management Systems and how they will help Organisations improve internally and externally.

Plan, perform and report on audits relating to the ISM Code and the ISO 9001:2008

Assess Internal and Supplier Management Systems for Quality & Safety.

Assist Management to improve operational performance and profits.

Gain qualifications as a Lead Auditor/Assessor of ISO 9001:2008 and/or the ISM Code in the one Course.

Learn how to demonstrate due diligence to documented policy, processes and procedures.

An Introduction to Quality and Safety Management Systems.

An Introduction to the “Guidelines on the Application of the ISM Code” and its relationship to ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001, OH&S systems and ISPS.

Types of Audit – 1st, 2nd and 3rd Party fully explained with practical case studies.

Auditing Techniques: Planning – Preparation – Performance – Reporting and Follow-up – Close Outs.

Writing Audit Findings as Audit Reports including accidents, incidents and hazardous occurrences.

Corrective and Preventive Action and being able to identify Major and Minor Non-Conformances and Observations.

Requirements to become a Lead Auditor for Quality, Safety, Environmental and Security Management Systems.

Quality Management System certification requirements.

ISM certification requirements (DOC and SMC).
Interactive training, combining lectures and videos with practical application of the techniques and requirements in team role-play scenarios.

Course examination to test understanding of auditing ISO and ISM requirements as specified by IRCA.
